In an effort to reduce our carbon footprints, SOS service has selected Readyhosting, an EPA Green Power Partner that purchases Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to offset their energy use. This means that the servers, data centers and offices supporting sosservice.org are powered by renewable energy. In partnering with Readyhosting, SOS Service helps to prevent the release of 2.660 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year. As a result, the energy efficiency is equivalent to planting approximately 2.390 acres of trees, not driving 6.1 million miles, or removing 510 cars from the road.
A note from Tammy:
There was no "decision" made for SOS Service to go green. Quite frankly, I have been an environmentalist for many years. Recycling, buying organic products, grow organic and Xeriscape , composting, harvesting rainwater, building a backyard wildlife habitat, using energy efficient appliances and unplugging when not in use, reusing household disposable items when possible and driving an energy efficient automobile are just a few examples of of my commitment to environmental stewardship. Responsible environmental practices at SOS Service became an extension of the practices in my everyday life.
